Travel Guarantee Fund

The travel guarantee scheme – Your security for package tours

The travel guarantee scheme ensures that you get your money back if a package tour (a guaranteed trip) is canceled due to the bankruptcy of the organizer. In order for the scheme to apply, you must have purchased at least two out of three package tour elements – transport, accommodation or a significant tourist service – from the same organizer. In addition, the organizer must have provided a guarantee with the Travel Guarantee Fund.

This is not covered by the scheme

  • Purchase of a scheduled flight ticket only.
  • Purchase of separate travel services from different suppliers.

Always check whether the organizer has provided a travel guarantee before you book. You can easily find an overview of organizers who have provided a travel guarantee on the Travel Guarantee Fund’s website. Remember, payment will only be made if the organizer or intermediary who has provided a guarantee goes bankrupt.

Tip: Pay by credit card

If your trip is not covered by the travel guarantee scheme, we recommend that you pay by credit card. This allows you to claim your money back from the card issuer if the supplier goes bankrupt.

What do you do in case of bankruptcy?

If your trip is canceled as a result of bankruptcy and you are entitled to reimbursement under the travel guarantee scheme, you can submit your claim to the Travel Guarantee Fund.

Examples of travel subject to warranty

  1. Charter flights, including purchase of airline seat only.
  2. Customized packages, such as flights and hotels advertised as one package online or in a newspaper.
  3. Combinations of flights and hotels, where you yourself have asked the agency or website to book both.

Important information

  • The Travel Guarantee Fund’s logo or a clear statement of the travel guarantee provided must be stated when advertising package tours.
  • Payment will only be made if the organizer has provided a guarantee and the trip is canceled due to bankruptcy.
